Designs by Francesca Winterman

Francesca's Bestiary

Techniques and Materials

Techniques and Materials

I'm a designer and maker of animals and imaginary beasties. My creatures are all sewn by hand. I create patterns from doodles of characters that pop into my head. They won't go away until I bring

them to life.

Having always been inspired by animal tales, I wanted to create my own bestiary. The Bestiary is my dream bubble.

The Bestiary Bazaar is my market place.

Techniques and Materials

Character design and plush animal design have always been a passion of mine. My degree and experience in textiles and graphic design have helped to develop my style and process for bear making.

For drawing and development work, I use ink pens and digital manipulation. For my hand-sewn creatures I mostly use mohair, but also love alpaca, and faux furs found in wardrobes and charity shops, too.

Product information

I use cotter pin joints and glass eyes, as well as safety joints and safety eyes. Some of my creatures are not suitable for children under 7 yrs, and some creatures are suitable for younger children. Please check the description for each artisan creature, if buying for kids.

These beasties are artisan friends, rather than toys. They do enjoy adventures, but want to be handled with love.

Packaging

Jointed animal for sale with The Bestiary's branded packaging.

When your creature is sent in the post it will be well wrapped in tissue paper and placed inside a strong, cardboard gift box. The box will also contain my business card, the creature's tag, and a badge. The box will be tied with ribbon and will then be wrapped in strong posting paper, so your new little friend arrives safely.
